Review: Coors Seltzer

by Jeff Ellingson

Coors Seltzer has been released just in time for the traditional end of summer, Labor Day.  With each 12 pack of Coors Seltzer purchased, Molson Coors is committing to restore 500 gallons of clean water to Americas rivers.  They are doing this by donating $1 per case to Change the Course and their river initiatives.  They project in one year they will restore 1 billion gallons of river water.  That is 192 times the size of the Mississippi River.  Coors Seltzer is available in a four flavor variety pack including three cans each of Grapefruit, Mango, Lemon Lime, and Black Cherry.  I’ll be honest, with most products I hate variety packs.  There always seems to be at least one flavor I hate.  With Hard Seltzer, count be as a big fan of the variety pack.  I wish Bubly and Lacroix would also offer variety packs.  Each slim 12 ounce can of Coors Seltzer weighs in with 90 calories, 4.5% alcohol and 2 Carbs.  It is made from a traditional cane sugar alcohol base with natural flavors added.

Coors Black Cherry Seltzer:  The aroma is dried organic Montmorency cherries.  Sweet cherry bursts from the glass building to a tart cherry peak.  I would describe this as a full flavored seltzer.  It fades with cherry juice and almond and finishes somewhere between sour cherry syrup and black cherry ice cream.  Some cherry flavored seltzers have a medicinal flavor, Coors Black Cherry Seltzer does not.  Also absent is any old school bitter sweet carbon seltzer after taste.

Grade: B+

Coors Lemon Lime Seltzer:  The aroma is lemon lime soda.  The sweet lemonade entry is joined by lime and yeast roll building to a lemon cream cheese peak.  It fades with citrus and finishes with sweet lemon, tart lime, and cream cheese taste leaving a touch of bittersweet carbon seltzer and lemon taste.

Grade: C+

Coors Mango Seltzer:  The aroma is mango nectar.  The sweet mango entry build to a juicy mango peak.  It fades with mango bubblegum flavor and finishes with sweet mango juice and tangy tropical pineapple flavor, leaving butter cream and bittersweet taste.

Grade: B-

Coors Grapefruit Seltzer: The aroma is fresh peeled grapefruit.  The sweet orange entry grows to a sweetened grapefruit peak.  It fades with blood orange flavor and finishes tart and semi dry leaving juicy orange, grapefruit, and buttercream taste.

Grade: B

I believe in July Coors announced they were discontinuing the Coors Seltzer line in the US. They will still produce for the Canadian market. I don’t know where in Wisconsin you have looked but if you are near a Woodmans they may still have some left.
