2020 Top Ten Flavored Irish Cream Liqueurs

In 2019 we published our list of the Top Ten Irish Cream Liqueurs and we promised to follow that up with a Top Ten Flavored Irish Cream Liqueurs list.  To be clear this list includes flavored Irish Creams and flavored Country Creams.  We also considered Baileys Almande and Fennellys Almond Cream Liqueur.  While neither are made with whiskey or dairy cream they sit shoulder to shoulder on liqueur store shelves with the rest of the Baileys and Fennellys family of cream liqueurs.  Last year I pictured a much different group of contenders, but several of the early contenders for inclusion in this top ten list are no longer produced.  They include Baileys Pumpkin Spice, Saint Brendans Salted Caramel , Saint Brendans Peppermint Bark, Michaels White Chocolate, & Michaels Vanilla Cinnamon.  Merry also reduced their flavored Irish Cream lineup by three.  I have always said one of the most important factors in any Top Ten list is quality and quantity of those considered for inclusion.  Over time we have reviewed over 80 Irish Creams and Country Cream and over 40 have been of the flavored variety.  In preparation of our 2020 list we tasted almost every flavored Irish Cream liqueur on the market today.  The current list of flavored Irish creams include 8 Baileys, 6 Fennellys, 4 Connellys, 3 Michaels, 2 Sheelin, 2 Mollys, 2 Merrys, 2 Connellys, and 1 from Seans, Carolans, McCleary, O’Reillys, and Flannerys.  Before publishing our list of Top Ten Flavored Irish Cream Liqueurs we broke each of the flavors down individually and also named our Top Irish Cream by flavor category.

It may seem unusual to separate flavored and unflavored Irish Cream and Irish Country Creams since all are flavored, but I liked so many of them it was hard to come up with a Top Ten list that included both without leaving out some of our favorites.  In 2021 we promise to do so anyway.  For today our focus is just on the flavored varieties.

Caramel:  With 7 Caramel and Salted Caramel brands on the market today caramel by number of brands is the most popular flavor.  Those reviewed include Baileys Salted Caramel, Fennellys Salted Caramel, Carolans Salted Caramel, Merrys Salted Caramel, Michaels Salted Caramel, O’Maras Salted Caramel, & Connellys Caramel Cream.

Honorable Mention:  Carolans Salted Caramel:  The tropical fruit and coconut notes give this another dimension.

White Chocolate:  With 6 different brands, White Chocolate ranks second.  All 6 are produced by R.A. Merry.  Three are Irish Creams, Merrys, Flannerys, & McCleary.  Three are Country Creams, Sheelin, O’Reillys & Seans.

Pumpkin Spice:  There are currently 4 Pumpkin Spice brands.  Mollys, Kavenaugh, Michaels, & Connellys.  At least 4 are no longer made.  That list includes Baileys, O’Dowd’s, Merry, and O’Donnells.  Baileys and O’Dowds were both quite good but not as good as this years best.

Mollys Coconut: For me it came down to Mollys Coconut and Baileys Espresso Creme as the Best Flavored Irish Cream.  Mollys Coconut has natural coconut ice cream flavor a touch of fresh pineapple and sweet Irish Whiskey, toasted coconut, and fresh dairy cream taste.

Mollys Pumpkin Spice:  The luxurious cinnamon, ginger and fresh dairy cream entry is possibly the thickest and creamiest flavored Irish Cream.  Pumpkin spice and Irish Whiskey arrive building to a pumpkin ice cream peak.  It fades with gingerbread and vanilla, finishing with whipped cream, pumpkin spice and Irish Whiskey taste. 

Baileys Strawberries and Cream:  The strawberry puree entry builds to a tart strawberry milkshake peak.  It fades with strawberry yogurt flavor and finishes with whipped cream, strawberry, and Irish Whiskey taste. 

Baileys Apple Pie: The cinnamon apple crisp and thick dairy cream entry builds to a Dutch apple pie ala mode peak.  It fades with bright apple whiskey brown sugar and whipped cream taste.
