Review: Malibu Sundae Chocolate Ice Cream Rum

Malibu chocolate sundae rum - CopyMalibu Sundae Chocolate Ice Cream rum was introduced May 2013.  It is one of 14 flavors Malibu creates with rum from Barbados which is made with molasses from the finest sugar cane crops.  It is distilled three times and is blended with natural coconut liqueur and chocolate ice cream flavor before bottling at 21% alcohol. The aroma is chocolate and cream.  It pours in my glass to a slightly brown tinted ginger ale color.  The initial flavor is chocolate.  As it warms in my mouth it takes on the taste of chocolate ice cream before fading with some rum flavor and a hint of coconut.  I feel some burn on the back of my throat as I swallow.  This rum tastes best served on the rocks with a splash of cream or half and half to soften the sweet chocolate opening and the less than smooth finish.
