Burnett’s Coconut Rum is made in Bardstown Kentucky at the Heaven Hill Distillery with rum distilled in the Caribbean. Previously bottled versions of Burnett’s Coconut Rum labeled this as a Virgin Island distilled rum. Burnett’s is a value brand probably best known for the 40 flavored vodka’s they produce. I picked up this bottle of rum for $7.99. The aroma is molasses, vanilla, and coconut syrup with a subtle lime backing. The simple syrup, coconut cotton candy, and molasses entry has a thick syrupy mouth feel. Vanilla arrives building to a coconut frosting peak. It fades with, cane sugar, molasses, and lime. The finish is warm with coconut syrup, brown sugar, lime peel, a hint of cocoa flavor, and a mild rum burn. Burnett’s Coconut Rum is a very sweet and syrupy coconut rum I say has more of a coconut rum liqueur feel and taste, than a straight coconut rum. That said, Burnett’s does have a nice tasting rum base and if you like your cocktails sweet, Burnett’s Coconut will mix well in your favorite coconut rum cocktails.
