Review: Barefoot Hard Seltzer

Barefoot Wine is the top selling wine brand in the US.  Last years sales topped $668 million.  Not bad for a brand first created in Davis Bynum’s garage with the launch of Barefoot Bynum Burgundy in 1965.  Barefoot is now owned by E&J Gallo the nations top selling wine producer.  February 2020 E&J released Barefoot Hard Seltzer.  This should not be confused with Barefoot Spritzers, their line of canned wine spritzers that was launched May 2016.  This is not E&J Gallo’s first Hard Seltzer as they also produce High Noon Sun Sips, a vodka based hard seltzer.  Barefoot Hard Seltzer is available in four flavors that are sold in individual flavor four can packs, or a 12 can variety packs.  The flavor lineup includes Peach Nectarine, Strawberry Guava, Pineapple Passion Fruit, and Cherry Cranberry.  Barefoot Hard Seltzer is made with sparkling water, grape wine and natural flavors.  Each 8.4 oz. can weighs in at 70 calories, with 5 carbs, 2 sugar grams, and 4% alcohol.

Barefoot Cherry Cranberry Hard Seltzer

The aroma leads with sweet cherry and a hint of almond.  Unsweetened cranberry and white wine follow.  The sweet cherry white wine entry is joined by cranberry building to a sparkling cherry white wine peak.  It fades with tart cranberry.  The semi-dry finish leaves grape wine, sour cherry and cranberry taste.

Grade: B-

Barefoot Peach Nectarine Hard Seltzer

The aroma is bright peach.  Additional time in the glass brings out a white wine backing.  The sweet peach entry builds to a juicy peach peak.  It fades with tart nectarine.  The natural peach flavor carries through the finish with peach mimosa flavor leaving sour gummy peach and white wine taste.

Grade: B+

Barefoot Strawberry Guava Hard Seltzer

The aroma leads with strawberry.  Guava follows.  The sweet strawberry entry is joined by guava building to a bright strawberry guava peak.  It fades with white wine joining the mix.  The finish is semi-dry with white wine and freeze dried strawberry taste.

Grade: B+

The aroma leads with canned pineapple juice.  Passion fruit, bubble gum, and mango follow.  The pineapple candy entry builds to a tangy pineapple passion fruit peak.  It fades with white wine joining the party.  The finish leaves sour passion fruit, canned pineapple, and white wine taste.
