Brooklyn Hard Seltzer was released by Brooklyn Brewery July 2021.  Brooklyn Brewery was started with a dream to return brewing to Brooklyn New York.  At on time 10% of the beer brewed in America was brewed in Brooklyn.  Steve Hindy and Tom Potter founded the company in 1987.  Originally all of the beer was contract brewed by Matt Brewing Company.  Matt is probably best known by the Saranac Beer they brew.  In 1996 Steve and Tom purchased a former Matzo factory in Williamsburg Brooklyn and converted it to their brewery.  Today they produce several beers including the following year round beers, Brooklyn Lager, Bel Air Sour, The Stonewall Inn IPA, Pulp Art Hazy IPA, Special Effects IPA, East IPA, Shackmeister Ale, and Brown Ale.  Japanese Brewery Kirin acquired a 24.5% stake in the company October 2016.  Brooklyn Hard Seltzer is made from a dextrose alcohol base with natural fruit and other natural flavors.

Brooklyn Black Cherry Apricot Hard Seltzer:  The aroma leads with black cherry.  Apricot pastry follows.  The sweet black cherry entry is joined by fresh apricot building to a foamy beer like peak.  It fades with sour cherry, and finishes bittersweet with beer yeast, dried apricot, and carbon seltzer taste.

Brooklyn Lemon Cloudberry Hard Seltzer:  The aroma leads with lemon, floral raspberry jam, and sour dough notes.  The sweet lemon candy entry is joined by floral raspberry and yeast roll building to a foamy lemon raspberry beer peak.  It fades with sour redberry and lemon yogurt and finishes with lemon peel and carbon seltzer taste.

Brooklyn Grapefruit Hard Seltzer:  The aroma leads with fresh peeled grapefruit.  The unsweetened grapefruit entry is joined by yeast roll building to a foamy grapefruit beer peak.  It fades with creamed corn and sour grapefruit and finishes with whole grapefruit and carbon seltzer taste.

The Bottom Line:  Brooklyn Hard Seltzer may appeal more to a craft beer drinker looking to take a short ride on the hard seltzer wave, than a hard core hard seltzer drinker.  At times the flavor feels more beer like than hard seltzer.  I don’t find the fruit flavors to be as well defined as some of the other hard seltzers on the market today and each flavor journey ends with full carbon seltzer taste.  On a positive note none of the Brooklyn Hard Seltzer flavors are oversweet.
