Review: Corona Hard Seltzer Seltzerita

by Jeff Ellingson

Corona Hard Seltzer Seltzerita was just released in a four flavor 12 can variety pack.  Seltzerita is also sold in a 7 oz. 12 bottle variety pack.  Seltzerita joins a long list of seltzers made with either agave syrup, or tequila.  Seltzerita is made from a cane sugar alcohol base with agave syrup, natural flavors, Mexican lime juice concentrate, cane sugar, and salt.  Each 12 ounce can weighs in with 6% alcohol, 130 calories, and 1% juice.  This has been a busy month for the Constellation Brands Beer Division as they also completely revamped their original hard seltzer product line, introduced Modelo Ranch Water, and launched Modelo Chelada Naranja Picosa.

Corona Peach Seltzerita:  The aroma leads with fresh sliced peach.  Additional time brings out agave syrup.  The sweet and saline peach entry is joined by agave building to a juicy peach, tart lime, and agave peak.  It fades with saline and finishes with agave syrup, lime juice, and peach nectar.

Grade: B

Corona Classic Lime Seltzerita:  The aroma leads with lime juice.  Lime aftershave and agave follow.  The sweet limeade entry is joined by saline and agave building to a limeade peak.  It fades with cane sugar, agave and saline.  Leaving lime juice, lime aftershave, salt, and agave taste.

Grade: B

Corona Strawberry Seltzerita:  The aroma leads with strawberry soda.  Additional time brings out strawberry jam and agave.  The candied strawberry and lime juice entry is joined by agave, building to a sugary and salty strawberry limeade peak.  It fades with sugary lime juice and finishes with tart lime juice, salt, and agave taste.

Grade: C+

Corona Mango Seltzerita:  The aroma leads with ripe mango.  Additional time brings out Bath and Body Works Mango, agave syrup, and a squeeze of lime.  The sweet mango entry is joined by cane sugar and lime juice building to a juicy mango and lime peak.  It fades with lime and saline and finishes with mango and lime juice.

Grade: B+

The Bottom Line: While I don’t notice the extra octane from the 6% alcohol, I do taste the added sugar and salt.  The 130 calories per 12 ounce serving is also 30% more than the typical 100 calorie hard seltzer.
