Review: Butterfly Cannon Blue Tequila
Butterfly Cannon Blue Tequila, AKA “The Color Changing Tequila” is made from a silver tequila base infused with natural prickly pear, clementine, other natural flavors and colored with beet juice and butterfly pea flower. The 100% agave base is made at Destiladora del Valle de Tequila. The blue color tequila turns pink when an acidic fruit such as lime or lemon juice is added. The Butterfly Tequila brand is created by Biggar and Leith owned by Mark Teasdale and Elwyn Gladstone, the founder of Malfy Gin. The name comes from the migration Monarch Butterflies take traveling through the US via Texas and into Northern Mexico where they winter for 5 months. They also produce Butterfly Silver and Butterfly Rosa, a tequila infused with Mexican Pink Grapefruit Peel. It pours to a bright blue color. The aroma leads with agave and citrus. Additional time brings out vanilla and earthy notes. The sweet agave and clementine entry builds to a watermelon bubblegum peak. It fades with citrus and finishes with tart strawberry, orange peel, and agave leaving earthy flavor and a warm peppery sting.
