Review: Sterling Vodka
Sterling Vodka is distilled and hand bottled at Steel Toe Distillery in Potomac Montana. Steel Toe was founded by husband and wife team Carl and Christina Bock in 2013. Besides vodka they make Uncle Carl’s Whiskey, Gin, Black Tea Liqueur, and several flavored vodkas. All are distilled from 100% sugar cane. Carl Bock grew up in Wisconsin and moved to Montana to attend college and never left. Before founding Steel Toe, Carl ran a wolf sanctuary. With the birth of his first child the Bock’s decided on a new career path. Carl distills the spirits and Christina handles the books. They started distilling in a 11X15 distillery and have since expanded. Sterling vodka is made from just 3 ingredients, sugar cane, yeast and pure well water sourced 400 feet below the distillery. The cane sugar and yeast is fermented for 4-5 days and then distilled for 30 hours before hand bottling. The aroma leads with burnt matchstick. Additional time brings out sugar cane notes. The sweet burnt sugar and vanilla entry is very smooth building to a caramel peak. It fades with milky butterscotch and finishes with toffee notes. This is a dangerously smooth and tasty vodka that unfortunately is no longer made. I only wish I would have purchased more than 1 bottle. If you see this on a store shelf buy as many as you can, and please send me a bottle.
