Review: Southern Tier Peanut Butter Cup Whiskey
Southern Tier Peanut Butter Cup Whiskey was released December 2022. It is one of 7 flavored whiskey’s Southern Tier makes. They also produce 2 flavored whiskey creams, 2 vodka’s, 6 bourbons, gin, and rye. The Southern Tier story begins when Phineas DeMink, Sara DeMink, and Allen “Skip” Yahn founded Southern Tier Brewing Company. They started brewing with equipment acquired from the old Saddlebrook Brewing Company in Pittsfield Massachusetts. Southern Tier currently brews a couple dozens beers each year including their seasonal Pumpking Imperial Pumpkin Ale. Pumpking is on every top ten Pumpkin Beer list I’ve ever seen. In October 2015 Southern Tier was granted a New York State Farm Distillers license. 90% of what goes into their spirits comes from local farms. Southern Tier Peanut Butter Cup Whiskey is made from a 100% corn mash whiskey base with natural flavors and caramel color. It is nut free but it does contain milk and milk derivatives. The aroma leads with milk chocolate vanilla buttercream, butterscotch, caramel, and roasted peanuts. The sweet caramel and chocolate entry has a syrupy mouth feel. Butterscotch and peanut arrive, building to a peanut buttercup peak. It fades with simple syrup, and milk chocolate, and finishes with Bounty coconut candy bar, caramel, peanut, and a mild whiskey burn.
