Review: Wyders Dry Raspberry Cider

by Jeff Ellingson

Wyders dry raspberry - CopyWyders Dry Raspberry cider is one of four ciders now produced in Middlebury Vermont by the Vermont Hard Cider Company, the makers of Woodchuck Hard Cider.  Wyders first cider was originally created in Vancouver in 1987 by Ian Wyder who learned his craft working at a cidery in the UK.  Dry Raspberry is made with hard cider and natural flavor and it is bottled at 4% alcohol. It pours to a lightly carbonated pale golden pink color.  The aroma is raspberry with some floral notes.  The flavor enters as sweet raspberry and builds to a tart raspberry apple peak with a hint of violet before a dry bittersweet finish.  Raspberry is the lead flavor throughout but the secondary flavors knock this cider a bit off coarse.
