Review: Kahlua Pumpkin Spice

by Jeff Ellingson

Kahlua Pumpkin SpiceKahlua Pumpkin Spice was introduced in September 2013 and it is one of the 10 flavors of Kahlua that now line the shelves at my local liquor store. Pumpkin Spice is a limited edition rum and coffee liqueur.  It is made in Mexico with natural pumpkin, and automnal spices blended with 100% Arabica coffee and sugarcane rum.  The aroma is equal parts coffee, pumpkin, and a blend of cinnamon and nutmeg.  Poured to a dark maple syrup color and consistency I pick up additional coffee scents with a hint of alcohol.  The flavor is Coca Cola sweet pumpkin, followed by cinnamon rum, fading to a rich coffee finish.  Additional sips bring out more of the sweet rum flavor and notes of clove and nutmeg.  On its own this is a little sweet.  Served over ice with cream balances the sweetness and it tastes like a pumpkin mocha milkshake.  Not something I would drink all night but this might be a nice conclusion to a Thanksgiving dinner where I leave no room for dessert.
