Review: Paddy Devils Apple
Paddy Devils Apple was introduced in 2013 along with their Bee Sting flavor. Both flavors are sold exclusively in the US. They create a Spiced Apple and Irish Honey version for the European market. It is created with Original Paddy Irish Whiskey which is made with Barley harvested from the East Cork countryside, water from the river Dungourney, malt, and a special distillers yeast. It is triple distilled in copper pot stills and then filled into oak casks to rest for up to seven years. It is then blended with malt and grain whiskey. Natural apple and cinnamon flavors and sugar are mixed with this three whiskey blend in small batches, before filtering and bottling in Middleton, County Cork Ireland. Because this weighs in at 70 proof, under the 80 proof required for Irish Whiskey, Paddy calls their Devils Apple, a Premium Liqueur. The aroma is fresh squeezed apple cider with notes of whiskey and cinnamon and a hint of vanilla. The flavor leads with fresh crisp red apple. It is followed by smooth Irish Whiskey that adds to the apple flavor rather than dominating it. A warm cinnamon apple finish completes the experience. While most people will enjoy Devils Apple as a shot, it is certainly smooth enough and tasty enough to sip on the rocks.
