Review: Suerte Tequila Blanco

by Jeff Ellingson

Suerte Tequila Blanco - CopySuerte Tequila Blanco was introduced in 2012.  It is crafted with 100% Blue Weber Agave grown in the highlands region of Jalisco.  The agave pinas are slow roasted at a low temperature in a brick over for 52 hours.  The pinas are then crushed for 16 hours to extract all of their juices.  The juice is then mixed with pure spring water from Atotonillo el Alto and a proprietary yeast in a fermentation tank.  A double distillation follows with the liquid passing through a stainless and then a copper still.  The tequila is rested in stainless steel tanks for two months before being bottled. The aroma is cinnamon, vanilla, agave, and orange with a smoky backing.  The sweet agave flavored entry is joined by citrus building to a cinnamon and vanilla peak.  It fades with a light peppery sting, some heat, and agave taste.  The finish is dry with a hint of smoke, the result of slow roasting rather then barrel aging.  Suerte has crafted a tasty tequila that can be enjoyed sipped on the rocks, or served in a cocktail.
