Review: Ichabod Pumpkin Ale

by Jeff Ellingson

Ichabod Pumpkin Ale - CopyIchabod Pumpkin Ale was introduced in 1997 by the New Holland Brewing Company.  It is one of three seasonal beers that join seven year round beers and dozens of specialty beers they brew in Holland Michigan.  Ichabod is brewed with malted barley, real pumpkin, cinnamon, and nutmeg.  While the New Holland Brewing Company website says Ichabod Pumpkin Ale is bottled at 4.5% alcohol, my bottle lists the alcohol content at 5.2%. It pours to a pumpkin orange color.  The aroma is pumpkin and pumpkin spice with a malt backing.  The entry has real pumpkin taste and a creamy pumpkin feel.  Nutmeg flavor arrives, with cinnamon following.  The citrus hopped finish leaves pumpkin spice aftertaste.
