Review: Leinenkugels Harvest Patch Shandy
Leinenkugels Harvest Patch Shandy was introduced in 2014. It is one of four shandy style beers they produce in Chippewa Falls Wisconsin. Harvest Patch is a traditional Weiss beer brewed with honey, and made with Pale and Wheat malts, Cluster hops, pure water from the Big Eddy Springs, and natural pumpkin spice including nutmeg, allspice and clove. Review: Row Hard Root Beer
Row Hard Root Beer is crafted at the Rock Bridge Brewing Company in Columbia Missouri along with their Pedal Hard Ginger Beer. It is sold in 4 packs of 16 ounce cans and is brewed with pure cane sugar, molasses, spices, and botanicals. Row Hard is brewed without grain and it is gluten free. If it seems like I just reviewed a hard root beer, you are correct. Row Hard is my fifth hard root beer review, and I know of at least one other brand currently on the market. Based on the success of Not Your Fathers Root Beer, I expect to review many more. Read more
Review: Jack-O Traveler Pumpkin Shandy
Jack-O Traveler Pumpkin Shandy was introduced as a fall seasonal shandy in 2013. It is one of three seasonal shandy’s The Traveler Beer Company brews with ale and lemon peels in Cincinnati Ohio. Their other seasonal flavors include a Forbidden Apple, and Jolly Holiday Spice flavor. The Traveler Beer Company is part of the Alchemy and Science Group of craft breweries formed by Alan Newman the co-founder of The Magic Hat Brewery and his first employee, Stacey Steinmetz. This group is an independently operated subsidiary of The Boston Beer Works, the maker of Sam Adams Beer. Jack-O is crafted with 2 row malted barley, malted wheat, and Hallertau Hallertau hops, with natural flavors and real pumpkin added. Read more
Review: Coney Island Hard Root Beer
Coney Island Hard Root Beer was just introduced. It is brewed by the Coney Island Brewing Company, a brewery that is part of the Boston Beer Company. This is the company behind Sam Adams Beer, Angry Orchard Hard Cider, and Twisted Tea. It is made with ale, natural flavors, and caramel color, and it is bottled at 5.8% alcohol. Read more
Review: Berghoff Rowdy Root Beer
Berghoff Rowdy Root Beer was just released and it is one of 13 beers sold under the Berghoff label that are currently brewed in Stevens Point Wisconsin at the Stevens Point Brewery. This is the third adult root beer I’m familiar with, and I’m sure more will follow. Rowdy Root Beer is crafted from a flavorless porter and mixed with root beer flavoring. Those flavorings include all natural sugar cane. It weighs in at 6.6% alcohol, and is available in 12 ounce cans sold in six packs, and on draught in select Chicago area bars. Read more
Review: Widmer Brothers Hefe Shandy
Widmer Brothers Hefe Shandy was recently launched as a summer seasonal beer. They currently craft 21 beer varieties including two other seasonal beers. Kurt and Rob Widmer launched the Widmer Brothers Brewing Company April 1984 in Portland Oregon. In 2008 they merged with Seattle based Red Hook Brewery and named the new company, Craft Brew Alliance. In 2010 the Kona Brewing Company joined the group. Their Hefe Shandy is brewed with natural lemonade flavor, 2-row and wheat malts, and alchemy, and lemon drop hops. The Widmer Brothers crafted the Original American Hefeweizen, so it seems natural they would create the first Hefe Shandy. Read more

Blue Moon Blackberry Tart ale was introduced in 2013. It is a limited summer release, and one of six limited release beers that join their four seasonal and two year round beers. It is crafted with Pale, Munich, Cara 8, Chocolate, and White Wheat malts, and Chinook hops. It is also brewed with blackberries and raspberries. Read more
Review: Labatt Blue Light Lime
Labatt Blue Light Lime was introduced in 2010. This is the 100% natural lime flavored follow up to Labatt Blue Light, which was introduced in 1983. When you think Labatt’s you probably think you are drinking a Canadian brewed beer, but if you are drinking this beer in the US it was brewed at the old Genesee Brewery in Rochester New York. Labatt Blue Light Lime is a light Pilsner style beer with natural lime flavor added. Read more
Review: Labatt Shandy
Labatt Shandy is pictured here in the Labatt Summer Mixer 12 pack, along with their Blue Light Lime. It is also available in their own 12 packs. Labatt has been brewing beer since 1847 when John Labatt opened his first brewery in London Ontario. In 1995 Labatt was acquired by Inbev. When Inbev also acquired Anheuser Busch they were forced to sell the US brewing rights to North American Breweries based in Rochester New York. Today Labatt Shandy is still brewed there at the original Genesee Brewery. Few details are available about Labatt Shandy but they describe this as a lager beer with a splash of lemon. Read more
Review: Sprecher Hard Root Beer
Sprecher Hard Root Beer was introduced in 2013. It was originally introduced as Sprechers Bootleggers Bourbon Barrel Hard Root Beer. The Sprecher Brewery was founded in 1985 by Randall Sprecher, formerly a brewing supervisor at Pabst Brewing Company. The brewery is currently located at a former elevator car factory. It is one of six malt beverages they brew in Milwaukee Wisconsin. The other five include a Hard Ginger Beer, Hard Apple Pie, Hard Cola, Hard Cherry Cola, and a Hard Orange Cream flavor. They also brew six year round, four seasonal, five premium reserve beers, and four Radler style beers. They craft a line of soda, including a root beer. Sprecher Hard Root Beer starts with a cream ale style beer as the base and they add natural and artificial flavors, and caramel and artificial color. Read more
