Review: Tequila Honor Del Castillo Reflexion Blanco

Tequila Honor Del Castillo Reflexion Blanco is named for and owned by Mexican actress Kate del Castillo.  If the name sounds familiar she made the network news after helping Sean Penn set up a meeting with Joaquin ” El Chapo” Guzman to discuss making a film of his life.  This meeting led to his capture and arrest.  Honor Del Castillo Reflexion is crafted in partnership with the Vivanco Family, a fourth generation of agave growers, and producers of high quality tequila.  It is made from 100% estate grown agave.  The pina’s are cooked in traditional clay ovens and slow fermented with a proprietary yeast, then double distilled in small copper pot stills.      Read more »

Review: Hermosa Casagave Silver Tequila

Hermosa Casagave Silver Tequila is crafted by Master Distiller Augstine Sanchez at Destilera Leyros S.A.  Hermosa is a Spanish word that translates to beautiful.  Hermosa Casagave Silver is made from hand selected and hand harvested 100% Tequilana Weber Blue agave grown for 10 years in volcanic soil from the dormant Volcan de Tequila in the Highland region of Jalisco, 1200 meters above sea level.  The spirit is double distilled in small batches using half the energy, and 60% of the water used at other distilleries.  The pure spring water used in every step of production is drawn from natural aquifers that are over 200 feet deep.  PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING REVIEW IS FOR HERMOSA CASAGAVE SILVER TEQUILA.  We recently received a message from their producer that they changed everything about this tequila except the Hermosa name.  It is currently produced at Tequilas Las Americas NOM 1480.  The new formula includes organic agave.  It comes with a new name and bottle design.  This will prevent confusion when tequila shopping.  The new name is Hermosa Organic Tequila Silver.  Early feedback is the new formula tastes even better than the original.  We hope to get our hands on a bottle soon and we will share our thoughts. Review: Los Sundays Blanco Tequila

Los Sundays was established in 2016 on the principles of quality, originality, and style.  Los Sundays Blanco Tequila was released September 2017 along with Los Sundays Reposado.  The tequila is crafted at Destiladora del Valle de Tequila where the distillery is positioned over a running volcano river system where the water can be used in the distilling process.  Los Sundays is made from hand selected sustainably farmed 100% Blue Weber agave grown in both the Highland and Lowland Region for between 8-12 years.  A minimum of 23 sugar brix per agave is required before selecting, to ensure premium smoothness and flavor.  The distillery has secured relationships with agave farmers in the Highland and Lowland Regions to ensure consistent quality.  The agave is slow cooked in “hornos”, above ground stone ovens for between 24-48 hours using steam.  The Molino’s then crush the agave and extract the juice.  A proprietary yeast strain from Germany is added in a fermentation process that lasts 48-72 hours.  Los Sundays is double distilled.  In the final stages of the distillation process a signature natural coconut extract is added and left to distill for the final 8 hours.  The natural coconut extract is added before the distillation process is finished to maintain smoothness while still enabling bright, crisp agave flavors to sit foremost in the flavor profile.  Distribution is currently limited to California but Los Sundays Blanco Tequila is available to order online at http://www.hitimewine.net Read more »

Review: Volcan De Mi Tierra Blanco Tequila

Volcan De Mi Tierra Blanco Tequila was created in a 50/50 partnership between Moet Hennessy and the Gallardo Family.  Moet Hennessy is the parent company of several of the worlds most popular wine and spirits brands including Dom Perignon, Moet and Chandon, Hennessy, Glenmorange, and Belvedere.  Maestra de Tequila Anna Maria Romero Mena was recruited to create the tequila.  While they certainly had the resources to acquire their choice of any existing tequila brand, Moet Hennessy decided to build their own brand.  After 2 1/2 years, 177 batches, and 27 different bottle designs, Volcan De Mi Blanco Tequila was ready for sale.  The final product is made from a blend of 75% slow roasted Lowland agave cooked for 44 hours, and 25% Highland agave baked for 12 hours.  Each agave takes 3250 days to ripen before it is ready for harvest.  After cooling, the agave is crushed and fermented in wooden tanks with Champaign and Rum yeast.  The spirit is first distilled in a copper still and again in a stainless steel still.  The tequila rests for 30 days prior to bottling. Cenote Blanco Tequila is an ultra premium 100% Weber blue agave recently launched by SPI Group, the parent company of Stoli Vodka, Bayou Rum, Kah Tequila, and Kentucky Owl Bourbon.  Cenote is named for the natural swimming holes formed by the collapse of porous limestone bedrock which revealed a secret subterranean world of crystal clear fresh water.  The Mayans revered and named cenotes, meaning sacred well.  Master Distiller Arturo Fuentes and Master Blender Alejandro Garcia Perez manage the entire process at Fabrica de Tequilos Finos.  This is the distillery that also produces Dos Manos, El Diamante Del Cielo, Kirkland Signature, and Kah tequila.  Cenote is made from 100% blue agave grown for a minimum 6-7 years before harvesting from the Lowland Region.  The water used to craft Cenote is sourced from an artesian well located at the distillery.  The water is further filtered through reverse osmosis and carbon filters with silver ions.  Cenote is double distilled using a combination of copper and stainless steel pot stills.  After distillation the tequila is mellowed in American oak barrels for 3 weeks before bottling.
