Review: Don Modesto Blanco Tequila

don-modesto-blanco-tequila-image-copyDon Modesto Blanco Tequila was introduced in 2009.  The Modesto Spirits Company was created as a tribute to the late Modesto Toro Anaya.  For several years he produced a tequila without the use of modern chemicals, and sold it locally in towns near his ranch.  Upon his passing in 2007 the Toro family inherited his land and his unique process for crafting tequila.  It is crafted with 100% organic Weber Blue agave grown in the Lowlands.   The agave is slow cooked in traditional brick ovens.  Once the juice is extracted it is fermented for 5 to 10 days.  The tequila is twice distilled and then bottled in hand blown bottles. Review: Thunderstruck Silver Tequila

thunder-struck-silver-tequila-copyThunderstruck Silver Tequila was recently released.  The brand is owned by the HOF rock band AC/DC, who already own a line of beer and wine.  Thunderstruck is named for the lead single from AC/DC’s 1990, Razor’s Edge Album.  The song has been used as walk up music for baseball closers John Smoltz and Mark Melancon, boxer Manny Pacquiao, and player introductions for the LA Kings and Tampa Bay Lightning.  AC/DC and Van Halen may be the only two rock bands that enjoyed equal success with two different lead singers.  Now both bands also have a tequila associated with the them.  Van Halen lead singer Sammy Hagar launched and later sold Cabo Wabo Tequila.  Thunderstruck is crafted with lowland grown agave at Fabrica de Tequilas Finos.  This is the same distillery that produces the KAH, Don Manos, and Kirkland Signature line of tequila. Review: Frida Kahlo Blanco Tequila

Frida Kahlo Blanco Tequila - CopyFrida Kahlo Blanco Tequila was launched in 2005.  It is named for Frida Kahlo a Mexican surrealist artist known as the original Mexican party girl.  She was openly bisexual and reportedly had affairs with American jazz singer Josephine Baker, and Russian communist Leon Trotsky.  How many people can make that claim?  The tequila is made from 100% agave hand selected and then slow cooked in an adobe brick oven for no less then 28 hours.  The agave is then steamed and cooled to remove any bitterness before being pressed to remove the juice.  The juice is then naturally fermented for four days before being double distilled in small batches in an antique copper still.
