Review: Calico Jack Whipped Rum

calico jack whipped - CopyCalico Jack Whipped rum is one of nine rum flavors Beam Suntory creates under the Calico Jack label.  If you are unfamiliar with the Calico Jack rum brand, it was originally created by White Rock Distillers, the company that also built the Pinnacle line of vodka.  If a whipped cream flavored rum sounds crazy to you just remember their sister brand Pinnacle Vodka built their Whipped Cream flavored vodka into one of the best selling vodka flavors.  Calico Jack is currently the fifth best selling brand of flavored rum.  They start with rum distilled at the Cruzan Distillery in St. Croix.  Natural and artificial flavors are added in Frankfort Kentucky where it is bottled at 42 proof. Review: Brinley Gold Shipwreck Coffee Rum

brinley gold shipwreck coffee - CopyBrinley Gold Shipwreck Coffee rum is one of five rums made in St. Kitts, the smallest country in the Western Hemisphere, by the Brinley family.  It was rebranded in 2012 to include the Shipwreck name, and repackaged to match their Spice rum bottle.  The Shipwreck name honors the recent discovery of the Brimstone Hill off the coast of St. Kitts.  It was a British ship sunk by the French during the battle of Frigate Bay in 1782.  Brinley has been selling their column distilled rum since 2002 and they age their rum in oak bourbon barrels for four years.  Natural Brazilian coffee is blended before bottling their Coffee rum at 72 proof. Review: Cruzan Guava Rum

cruzan guava - CopyCruzan Guava rum was introduced May 2008.  It was the first and now over six years later, the only guava flavored rum.  It is one of 15 rum flavors Cruzan creates with rum distilled in St. Croix with tropical rain water and high quality molasses.  They use a five column distillation process and they remove the heads and fusel oils from each batch before aging in oak barrels.  The rum is then shipped to the Florida Caribbean Distillers in Auburndale Florida where natural guava flavor is added before bottling at 55 proof.  The guava is native to Mexico, Central and Northern South America.  While there are several varieties of guava, the apple guava is by far the most popular.  It is round to oval in shape and typically green when ripe. Review: Malibu Passion Fruit Rum

Malibu Passion Fruit rum - CopyMalibu Passion Fruit rum was introduced April 2005.  It is one of 13 flavored rums made with triple distilled rum from the West Indies Distillery in Barbados.  Natural passion fruit flavor is added in Canada where it is bottled at 42 proof.  Passion fruit is native to Brazil and Argentina and is round to oval in shape with a deep purple color when ripe. Review: Bacardi Grand Melon Rum

bacardi grand melon - CopyBacardi Grand Melon rum was introduced in 2006.  It is one of 15 flavored rums they create in Puerto Rico.  It is made with molasses and a single strain of yeast, Le Levadura Bacardi and fermented for 30 hours in closed fermentation tanks.  The fermented molasses is divided with some column still and some beer still distilled.  Each is aged separately in lightly charred American White Oak barrels.  Once mature the rums are blended and filtered through a mix of charcoal made from tropical woods and coconut shells.  Natural watermelon flavor is then infused before bottling at 70 proof. Review: Blue Chair Bay Coconut Spiced Rum Cream

blue chair bay spiced coconut cream rum - CopyBlue Chair Bay Coconut Spiced Rum Cream was just introduced and it will only be available for a limited time.  Every bottle they created has already been sold to their distributors and once its gone, it’s gone.  It joins the four year round rums created by country music star Kenny Chesney and Mike Booth, the Master Distiller at The West Indies rum Distillery in Barbados.  They start with their Coconut rum and add real cream, with island and holiday spices before bottling at 30 proof in a holiday red bottle even Santa would approve of.
