Largo Bay Coconut RumLargo Bay Coconut Rum is one of 6 rum brands created by Distiller Sales of Princeton Minnesota.  The rum is distilled at the West Indies Rum Distillery in Barbados.  This is same distillery that produces Malibu, Shellback and Blue Chair Bay Rum.  After distilling, the rum is shipped to Princeton Minnesota where natural flavors are added before bottling at 42 proof. Review: Bayou Spiced Rum

Bayou Spiced Rum ImageBayou Spiced Rum was introduced May 23 2013.  It is one of four rums crafted at the Louisiana Spirits Company in Lacassine Louisiana.  Each is made from 100% natural unrefined Louisiana cane sugar and molasses.  After fementing with a proprietary yeast the rum is distilled in a copper pot still.  Triple filtered fresh water is blended to reduce to proof.  Natural local spices and other natural flavors are infused before bottling at 80 proof. Calypso Coconut Rum - CopyCalypso Coconut Rum is named for the Greek nymph from Homers Odyssey best known for keeping Odysseus prisoner on the island of Ogygia for 7 years in an attempt to make him her immortal husband.  Calypso rum is one of 28 rum brands in the Sazerac product line.  It is made with rum distilled in the US Virgin Islands.  After arriving in Kentucky natural flavors are blended before bottling at 42 proof. Malibu Black Coconut Rum - CopyMalibu Black Coconut Rum was released in 2011.  At 70 proof this should not be confused with Malibu Original Coconut Rum which is bottled at 42 proof.  It is one of 14 varieties of rum created by Malibu.  Each flavor starts with molasses from the finest sugar cane crops and pure water.  After fermenting with a proprietary yeast it is distilled 3 times at the West Indies Distillery in Barbados.  The rum is shipped to Canada where coconut liqueur is infused with the rum before bottling at 70 proof. Rum Haven - CopyRumHaven Coconut Rum was introduced in 2015.  It is made with premium rum distilled in Barbados at the West Indies Rum Distillery.  Once the rum arrives in Canada, coconut water, natural flavors, and cane sugar are blended with the rum before bottling at 42 proof.  RumHaven is part of the E&J Gallo line of spirits that includes Shellback Rum, New Amsterdam Vodka and Gin and Camarena Tequila. Review: Bayou Satsuma Rum

Bayou Satsuma Rum - Copy (2)Bayou Satsuma Rum was introduced July 2014.  It is one of four rums crafted at the Louisiana Spirits Company in Lacassine Louisiana.  Each is made using 100% natural unrefined Louisiana cane sugar and molasses.  After being distilled in a copper pot still, triple filtered fresh water is blended to reduce to proof.  Satsuma juice from oranges grown in Louisiana are blended with the rum before bottling at 60 proof.  The Satsuma orange is native to China and is a variety of the Mandarin orange.  It was first planted in Louisiana by Jesuits in the 18th century.  In October 2015 it was announced the Stoli Group would become the exclusive distributor of Bayou rum in the US.  Before that Bayou Rum was only distributed in 7 states. Review: The Kraken Black Spiced Rum

Kraken Black Spiced Rum - CopyThe Kraken Black Spiced Rum was introduced in 2009.  It is made in Trinidad and Tobago at Trinidad Distillers Ltd., the same distillery that produces the Angostura line of rums.  The rum is named for the fictional giant squid/octopus, sea beast pictured on the bottles label.  It is made with Caribbean molasses and a secret blend of 13 spices. Review: Kilo Kai Spiced Rum

Kilo Kai Spiced Rum - CopyKilo Kai Spiced Rum was introduced in 2007.  The rum base is made in Curacao.  Curacao is part of the ABC Islands of the Netherlands Antilles.  That group includes the Islands of Aruba, Bonaire, and Curacao.  Angelo Leanez a third generation Master Distiller, or a member of his family, is involved in every step of the blending process.  Kilo Kai is crafted in small batches, about 1000 liters.  One year old and three year old rum is blended together before the rum is shipped to the US where it is flavored, spiced, and bottled at 70 proof. Review: Malibu Island Spiced Rum

Malibu Island Spiced Rum - CopyMalibu Island Spiced Rum was introduced March 2013.  It is one of 14 varieties of rum created by Malibu.  The 14th flavor Pineapple Upside Down Cake was just released.  Island Spiced is made with rum distilled in Barbados.  Coconut liqueur, light spices, cinnamon, vanilla, and Truvia are infused with the rum, before it is bottled at 60 proof in Canada.   While there are several reduced calorie vodka’s on the market today, this is the first and only reduced calorie rum I’m aware of.
