Review: Strongbow Honey and Apple Hard Cider

strongbow honey apple - CopyStrongbow Honey and Apple Hard Cider was introduced with their Gold Apple cider in March 2014.  They are replacing their original Strongbow.  With a 125 year history of making hard cider H.P. Bulmer was first acquired by Scottish and Newcastle in 2003 and later Heineken in 2008.  Honey Apple is made in Aubel Belgium and it is the first hard cider to combine apples with honey.  This continues the trend of adding honey to alcohol that has seen several bourbons, whiskeys, and scotches introduce honey flavored versions of their origin to their product line. Review: Strongbow Gold Apple Hard Cider

strongbow gold apple - CopyStrongbow Gold Apple Hard Cider was introduced in March 2014.  The Strongbow brand was launched in England by the H.P. Bulmer Co in 1962.  H.P. Bulmer has been producing cider in Hereford England since 1887.  By 1970 Strongbow was the worlds second best selling cider.  In 2008 it was acquired by Heineken.  Gold Apple hard cider is made in Aubel Belgium and the new look packaging design includes a tapered bottle for a more modern look.  A symbol of an archer, H.P. Bulmers founding date of 1887 and Strongbow Gold is embossed on the front and back of the bottle to create a premium look.  Read more »

Review: Smith and Forge Hard Cider

Smith forge hard cider - CopySmith and Forge Hard Cider was recently launched by Miller Coors.  The name is a combination of Blacksmith and Forging.  It is available in 12 and 16 ounce cans and is made in Memphis Tennessee by Uncharted Cider Co.  They are targeting men who have avoided cider because some have considered it a girly drink.  The black can with the tag line Made Strong and the 6% alcohol its crafted at, are designed to attract their target market, men. Review: Johnny Appleseed Hard Apple Cider

Johnny Appleseed Hard Cider - CopyJohnny Appleseed Hard Apple Cider was introduced in April 2014.  It is produced by Anheuser Busch in Baldwinsville New York.  While Johnny Appleseed is not the first hard cider created by InBev or Anheuser Busch, they already produce Michelob Ultra Light Cider, and Stella Artois Cidre, this is the hard cider they hope will compete with industry leaders Angry Orchard and Woodchuck for market dominance in North America.  More than 750 consumers from the US, Canada, and the United Kingdom co-designed the brand from the taste profile to packaging.  It is made with hard cider sourced from red varieties including Fuji and Gala grown in the US and around the globe. Review: Angry Orchard Cinnful Apple Cider

angry orchard cinnful appleAngry Orchard Cinnful Apple Cider was introduced in the fall of 2013 with their Elderflower Cider.  It is one of their autumn and winter seasonal flavors and is made with hard cider and natural flavors.  Angry Orchard is made in Cincinnati by the Boston Beer Co., the company behind the Sam Adams line of beers.  Their original cider brand Hard Core was introduced in 1997 and retired with the National launch of Angry Orchard in 2012.   Read more »
