Ciderboys Magic Apple Hard Cider was introduced in November 2012. The name will soon be changing to Strawberry Magic. It is one of two year round flavors that along with their five seasonal flavors are made in Stevens Point Wisconsin. Magic Apple is made with juice from Washington state apples that is fermented at cool temperatures in stainless steel tanks for two weeks. It is then filtered before strawberry juice and natural flavors are blended in a two step proprietary process. No sugar or artificial color is added. Read more
Review: Mikes Hard Smashed Crisp Apple Cider
Mikes Hard Smashed Crisp Apple cider was introduced in 2013. It is part of the Mike’s Hard Lemonade Company that was launched in 1999. It is made with crisp Washington state apples in Memphis Tennessee at the Blues City Brewery. It is sold in cans and six packs of 11.2 ounce bottles which may be because their parent company the Mark Anthony Group is based in Vancouver Canada. Read more
Review: Crispin Natural Hard Pear Cider
Crispin Natural Hard Pear Cider is fermented with specially selected wine yeasts and American pears using 100% pear juice not from concentrate. The pear juice is fresh pressed unfiltered and unpasteurized and then cold filtrated for extra purity with no colorants or sugar added. Pear juice concentrate is used as a back sweetener. Crispin started making cider in 2004 in Minnesota. In 2010 they acquired Fox Barrell Cider and moved their production to Colfax California. Until recently Crispin didn’t make pear cider and Fox Barrell didn’t make any apple cider. Is Crispin Natural Hard Pear Cider just their first pear cider or is this the end of the Fox Barrell brand? Ciderboys Peach County Hard Cider is a summer seasonal cider available from March 1 – August 31. The Ciderboys family of hard cider was introduced in Wisconsin November 2012. Their two year round and five seasonal flavors are made in Stevens Point Wisconsin at the Stevens Point Brewery which first started brewing beer in 1857. It is made with juice from Washington state apples that are fermented at cool temperatures in stainless steel tanks for two weeks. Review: Woodchuck Granny Smith Hard Cider
Woodchuck Granny Smith Hard Cider was introduced in 1997 and was designed to appeal to a wine drinkers palate. It was the third flavor they created and is now one of six core Woodchuck flavors made in Middlebury Vermont. Woodchuck is credited with bringing cider production back to the US when they introduced their original amber in 1990. The apples used are 100% Granny Smith, sourced from the Yakima Valley in Washington state. Read more
Review: McKenzie’s Original Hard Cider
McKenzie’s Original Hard Cider was introduced in 2011. It is made with cider sourced from and bottled by Mayer Brothers in West Seneca New York. The company was formed by Lenny Clolek who helped build the Mike’s Hard line of malt liquor and also worked for the Woodchuck Hard Cider company. The McKenzie’s name is a tribute to his brother in law who died at 43 from brain cancer. Original is one of 5 flavors they currently offer. Read more

Like several other cider brands Ciderboys comes from a brewery. The Stevens Point Brewery was founded in 1857 and is best known for its Point Special Lager. Ciderboys hard ciders are made with juice from fresh Washington state apples. The juice is fermented at cool temperatures in stainless steel tanks using hard-cider yeast imported from France. Crispin Original Hard Apple Cider is naturally fermented using fresh pressed apple juice from a blend of US west coast apples. Pure apple juice is added after fermenting to smooth the taste and reduce the alcohol content. Crispin started making cider in 2004 in Minnesota. Stella Artois Cidre was introduced by Anheuser Busch in the US in May 2013. They describe it as a crisp distinctive European style cider designed to be savored and is very different than the sweeter domestic ciders. Angry Orchard Green Apple hard cider was introduced in March 2014 as their forth year round cider. It is made with apples grown in Washington state. This is Angry Orchards first year round cider made with American apples. Introduced in 2012 Angry Orchard is part of Boston Beer Co and after only two years they are the best selling cider in the US. They hope Green Apple helps them hold this lead with strong and well financed competition entering the market this year. Read more
