Review: Whistling Andy Hibiscus Coconut Rum
Whistling Andy Hibiscus Coconut Rum is crafted in Bigfork Montana. It was one of the spirits that was released when the distillery opened New Years Eve 2010. Whistling Andy is named after the father of Head Distiller and Owner Brian Anderson. Currently the distillery also produces whiskey, gin, and vodka. WA Hibiscus Coconut starts with their white rum base made from high quality blackstrap molasses and first cut cane sugar sourced from a small farm in Brazil. The spirit is fermented with Lalvin V1116 (K1) yeast and distilled in a custom made Vendome Pot Still made in Louisville Kentucky. Dried Hibiscus flowers sourced from Egypt and Coconut are steeped directly into the rum base. No artificial colors or flavors are added before bottling at 80 proof. Read more
Review: Toppers Caribbean White Rhum
Toppers Caribbean White Rhum is crafted with blackstrap molasses, reverse osmosis water sourced from the Caribbean sea, sugar, and a special yeast blend. The rhum is column distilled and charcoal filtered before bottling at 80 proof at the 6000 square foot Toppers Distillery in St Maarten. Topper’s is best know for their line of flavored rhums that were first crafted by Melanie Daboul in her home kitchen. These flavored rhums where first served as a complimentary after dinner drink at the two restaurants she and husband Topper Daboul own on the Dutch side of St Maarten. Because of customer demand these rhum’s were soon bottled for sale. I first discovered this brand through Broudy’s online website, and with a flavored rhum linup that includes flavors like Mocha Mama, Banana Vanilla Cinnamon, Coconut, and White Chocolate Raspberry I was hooked. First the bad news, Toppers is no longer available at broudys.com. The good news is Toppers Rhum is now available at Total Wine and More. I’m anxious to see if Toppers Caribbean White Rhum lives up to the high standards set by their flavored rhums. Read more

Review: La Favorite Coeur De Canne Rhum Agricole Blanc
La Favorite Coeur De Canne Rhum Agricole Blanc is distilled, aged and bottled at one of the last family owned distilleries on the island of Martinique. It is crafted with locally grown sugar cane all manually cut, which does less damage to the roots and provides a better quality sugar cane. The fresh cut cane is delivered to the distillery where it is cut and crushed. The cane juice is filtered and pumped to stainless steel fermentation tanks. The fibers from the cane are sent to ovens to be burned as the fuel to feed the furnaces that heat the water of boilers, and provide the steam power used to power the entire distillery. The sugar juice ferments for 72 hours and it is then distilled in a copper column still. Pure distilled water is blended to reduce the proof before resting in oak barrels. Read more
