New Deal Mud Puddle Bitter Chocolate Vodka - CopyNew Deal Mud Puddle Bitter Chocolate Vodka was introduced in 2009.  It is one of four vodka varieties crafted in Portland on Distillery Row at the New Deal Distillery.  The distillery was opened in 2004 by Tom Burkleaux and Matthew VanWinkle.  They also distill gin, rum, whiskey, and liqueur.  Mud Puddle Bitter Chocolate is not actually a flavored vodka as they infuse organic fair trade cacao nibs that were custom roasted in small batches before distilling in their copper still.  Pure Bull Run water is added to reduce to proof.   Read more »

Review: Russian Standard Vodka

Russian Standard - CopyRussian Standard Vodka was introduced in 1998.  It is made with winter wheat from the Russian Steppes and pure glacial water from Lake Lagoda.  A proprietary distillation process which retains the character of the pure spirit and filters out impurities is controlled at all stages of production as the spirit passes through over 200 distillation stages.  Russian Standard is then filtered four times through Russian Birch Charcoal.  The vodka then rests for 48 hours in steel tanks where the liquid matures and the ingredients marry each other for perfect balance. Review: Skyy Infusions Dragon Fruit Vodka

Skyy Dragon Fruit Vodka - CopySkyy Infusions Dragon Fruit Vodka was introduced in 2011.  It is one of 16 Infusion flavors in their current product line.  Dragon Fruit is native to Mexico and it is the fruit of several cactus species.  Skyy starts with Midwestern grown wheat that is quadruple distilled in Pekin Illinois and upon its arrival in San Jose the vodka is blended with water filtered though reverse osmosis and then triple filtered through California limestone.  Natural dragon fruit flavor is infused before bottling at 70 proof. Review: Hammer and Sickle Vodka

Hammer and Sickle ImageHammer and Sickle Vodka, as the name would imply is a Russian vodka.  The Hammer and Sickle symbol was created during the Russian Revolution.  The Hammer represented the industrial laborers and the Sickle honored the peasant farmers.  Hammer and Sickle Vodka is crafted with winter wheat grown in the black earth region of Southern Russia and soft water from remote country springs.  It is distilled six times and filtered six times. Review: 3 Howls Banana Vodka

3 Howls Banana Vodka - Copy3 Howls Banana Vodka was launched October 2013 along with their Blood Orange Vodka and Good Old Fashioned Gin.  Their distillery was founded in 2013 in the heart of Seattle’s SoDo neighborhood.  The 5000 square foot distillery also crafts a Spiced Rum, Gold Rum, Rye Whiskey, Hopped Whiskey, and Vodka.  The name and logo are the result of a distillery tour, co-owner and company founder Will Maschmeier had in Isla Scotland.  There he heard the story of Cu-Sith, a giant hound who roams Scotland’s Highlands and Moors.  Legend has it the beast howls three times before taking souls to the underworld.  3 Howls Banana vodka is crafted with a corn grain mash bill.  It is distilled 7 times in a 300 gallon copper still.  The vodka is vapor infused through Real banana, clove, cinnamon, and vanilla beans in the final distillation.  Caramelized sugar is then added after the distillation process.  (less than 2%).  No glycerine is added.  3 Howls is hand bottled, labeled, and packaged at 80 proof.
