Review: Ballast Point Fugu Horchata Vodka
Ballast Point Fugu Horchata vodka is the first horchata flavored vodka on the market today. Based on Rum Chata sales I don’t expect it will be the last. It is one of five vodka varieties they distill in San Diego California. They also create 2 gins, 2 rums, 3 whiskeys, and a herbal liqueur. They also brew a full line of beers which they launched the company with in 1996. Their vodka is named after the poisonous puffer fish, also known as the FUGU fish, which is hundreds of times more poisonous than cyanide. Fugu, is considered a delicacy in Japan where it is meticulously prepared so as not to poison their customers. It is with that same attention to detail that Ballast Point creates their vodka’s. They start by distilling the finest corn grains. It is then filtered 15 times before passing through a proprietary diamond blending vortex, blending the vodka with water purified through reverse osmosis. Real cinnamon, rice and vanilla is infused before bottling at 80 proof. Read more
