Review: Hard Truth Peanut Butter Whiskey

Hard Truth Peanut Butter Whiskey was released in November.  It is crafted in Brown County Indiana by Master Distiller Bryan Smith, with two year old straight bourbon whiskey and natural flavors.  Bryan did not want to create a me too product so he started with a premium whiskey base and balanced the sweet natural peanut butter flavors with sea salt.  Hard Truth Distillery produces several spirits including Schoonover Straight Bourbon Whiskey, McCabes Irish Whiskey, Sipes Straight Bourbon Whiskey, White Oak Reserve Rum, Toasted Coconut Rum Cream, Toasted Coconut Rum, Original Vodka, Gin, and Cinnamon Vodka  Read more »

Review: Blind Squirrel Peanut Butter Whiskey

Blind Squirrel Peanut Butter Whiskey is one of 17 peanut butter whiskeys we have reviewed.  While that may seem like a lot they keep making more so they must be selling.  This is also the second squirrel themed peanut butter whiskey to go with the many sheep, ram, dog, and elephant themed peanut butter whiskeys already on the market today.  Blind Squirrel is produced by Universal Brands in Princeton Minnesota making it the third peanut butter whiskey made in the Gopher State.  Read more »

Review: The Dublin Liberties Murder Lane

The Dublin Liberties Murder Lane is a single malt Irish Whiskey aged for 13 years in first fill bourbon barrels and finished in Tokaj Wine casks.  Tokaj wine comes from the Northern Hungary and Southeast Slovakia region.  Murder Lane is named for an unnamed alley between Bow Street and James Street in Dublin Ireland.  In the early 1600’s many men, women, and children met an unpleasant fate there.  It is one of 4 expressions in The Dublin Liberties family of Irish Whiskey.  The others include Oak Devil, a 5 year old blended Irish Whiskey.  Copper Alley, a single malt Irish whiskey aged for 10 years in first fill bourbon barrels and finished in 30 year old Oloroso Sherry Casks.  Finally Keepers Coin, a single malt Irish Whiskey aged for 16 years in first filled bourbon barrels and finished in Pedro Jimenez sherry casks.    Read more »

Review: The Dublin Liberties Oak Devil Irish Whiskey

The Dublin Liberties Oak Devil Irish Whiskey is one of four new Irish whiskeys Quintessential Brands recently released in the US.  With names like Oak Devil, Copper Alley, Murder Lane, and Keepers Coin these whiskeys pay tribute to the Liberties, an area in Central Dublin with a history of whiskey distilling, The Guinness Brewery, tanneries, and textile mills.  Dublin Liberties Distillery opened its doors March 2019 in a 400 year old former mill and tannery on Mill street.  Built at a cost of over $11 million this distillery is only producing triple distilled malt whiskey.  Master Distiller Darryl McNally is blending sourced Irish whiskeys while his own crafted whiskey matures in barrels.  Oak Devil is a 5 year old blended whiskey made from 30% malt and 70% grain.  It is aged for five years in ex-bourbon barrels and non chill filtered before bottling at 92 proof.  Oak Devil had previously been released as a 3 year old expression.  Oak Devil is named for a carved OAK DEVIL that in the 1700’s stood over the entrance to the Dublin Liberties inciting Mayhem and Damnation within the riotous quarter know as Hell. Review: Ballotin Peanut Butter Chocolate Whiskey

Ballotin Peanut Butter Chocolate Whiskey is the latest chocolate flavored whiskey released by Saloon Spirits.  It joins a flavor lineup that already includes Ballotin Original Chocolate, Bourbon Ball, Chocolate Cherry Cream, Caramel Turtle Chocolate, and Chocolate Mint.  The whiskey base is made from a traditional bourbon mash of 51% or more corn, with wheat and barley making up the balance.  The whiskey is aged for 2 years in previously used oak barrels.  Bourbon must be aged in new American white oak barrels that have been charred.  The char and new oak from those bourbon barrels would have created a flavor barrier.  All natural chocolate and peanut butter flavors and caramel color are blended with the whiskey base before bottling at 60 proof. Review: Bird Dog Peanut Butter Whiskey

Bird Dog Peanut Butter Whiskey was just released.  While I’m not surprised Bird Dog introduced a Peanut Butter Whiskey, they already produce twelve flavored whiskeys, I am surprised thirteen peanut butter whiskeys were launched before Bird Dog came out with theirs.  Bird Dog is one of several spirits created by Western Spirits Beverage Company in Bowling Green Kentucky.  Western Spirits also makes Calumet Farm Bourbon, Sam Houston Bourbon, Lexington Bourbon, Kru Vodka, Twenty Grand Vodka, and Bokeelia Rum.  Bird Dog Peanut Butter starts with a bourbon base made from corn, malted barley, and rye.  It is aged in white oak barrels.  Peanut Butter flavors including real peanuts are infused before bottling at 80 proof. Review: Howler Head

Howler Head is produced by Wooler Brands in North Charleston South Carolina.  It is made from a Kentucky Straight Bourbon base and is infused with natural banana flavor.  Wooler Brands is betting “What is banana?” is the correct response to the future Jeopardy answer “Based on sales after Cinnamon, Apple, and Peanut Butter this is the next most popular flavored whiskey on the market today?”  Each bottle weighs in at 80 proof and is guaranteed to not contain any Ape S#t.  Their labels promise, not mine.    Read more »

Review: Porters Peanut Butter Whiskey

Porters Peanut Butter Whiskey was just released.  It is not made with real peanuts so the spirit is safe to drink for those with peanut allergies.  Those of you with children in school know just how real peanut allergies are as some schools even ban peanut butter and jelly sandwiches from students lunches.  Peanut Butter is one of five flavored whiskeys created by Ogdens Own Distillery in Ogden Utah.  The others include Porters Fire, Porters Peach, Porters Apple, and Porters Huckleberry.  Each starts with a Canadian Whiskey base and they weigh in at 66.6 proof.  Peanut Butter flavored whiskey has been on a roll with seemingly a new brand arriving every month.  This is our 12th peanut butter whiskey review and it wont be our last.
