Review: Teeling Single Pot Still Irish Whiskey

Teeling Single Pot Still Irish Whiskey is the first whiskey to be distilled in Dublin in nearly 50 years.  Prior to it’s release Teeling had sourced their whiskey from the Cooley Distillery that at one time was owned by the Teeling family.  Teeling Single Pot Still pays homage to a Dublin style made famous by the now closed Dublin Whiskey Distillery.  It is crafted using a uniquely Irish malt bill consisting of 50% malted and 50% un-malted barley that has been triple distilled and matured in a combination of American virgin oak, bourbon, and sherry casks.  The whiskey is non chill filtered and bottled at 92 proof. Review: Rams Point Peanut Butter Whiskey

Rams Point Peanut Butter Whiskey is bottled by Frankfort Distillers in Lewiston Maine.  Years ago Lewiston Maine was made famous as the flavoring and blending point for the French distilled Pinnacle Vodka.  Since then Pinnacle was sold to Beam.  Sazerac acquired the actual Lewiston distillery.  That’s not saying Rams Point is flavored or bottled here.  Sazerac also owns a distillery in Frankfort Kentucky, and since the bottle reads bottled by, instead of bottled and produced in, I’m skeptical as to where Rams Point is actually produced.  Rams Point, like Sheep Dog Peanut Butter Whiskey are both produced by Sazerac.  I have yet to find a store, city, or state that sells both Sheep Dog, and Rams Point Peanut Butter Whiskey.  Rams Point is made with whiskey, natural flavors, and caramel color. Review: Teeling Single Malt Irish Whiskey

Teeling Single Malt Irish Whiskey is made from 100% malted barley from a range of differently aged barrels including a malt whiskey distilled in 1991.  The whiskey is sourced from the old Cooley Distillery founded by John Teeling in 1987.  Beam acquired the distillery December 2011.  The Teeling Distillery was founded in 2015 by John’s sons, Jack and Stephen Teeling.  After aging in ex-bourbon barrels, the whiskey is finished in 5 different wine casks including barrels used to mature Sherry, Port, Madeira, White Burgundy, and Cabernet Sauvignon.  Teeling Single Malt is non chill filtered and bottled at 92 proof.  Today is the first day of March, 16 days away from St. Patrick’s Day.  It’s a good bet this will not be our last Irish Whiskey review between now and then. Review: Ole Smoky Peanut Butter Whiskey

If you have been to a bar or liquor store lately you probably already know that outside of hard seltzers there is probably not a faster growing adult beverage than peanut butter flavored whiskey.  By summer I expect there to be at least a dozen peanut butter whiskey varieties.  The Ole Smoky Distillery has sold a peanut butter flavored whiskey at their distillery for over two years.  This new and improved Ole Smoky Peanut Butter Whiskey was just released.  It is now available for sale throughout the US.  Ole Smoky is probably best known for their full line on flavored moonshine, where they are the number one selling brand.  2019 was a great year for Ole Smoky Moonshine as they grew their annual sales by a number greater than the total sales of the second best selling moonshine brand.  Peanut Butter is one of 14 flavors currently produced at their Gatlinburg Tennessee distillery.  This distillery was known as Davy Crockett’s Distillery before they acquired it in 2017.  Each flavored whiskey is made from a 100% corn whiskey base that is barrel aged for 2 years.  Natural flavors including real peanut oil are blended before bottling at 60 proof. Review: Jameson Cold Brew

Jameson Cold Brew Irish Whiskey was just released as a Limited Edition.  At one time there was one option for coffee flavored alcohol, and that was Kahlua.  There are now dozens of coffee, espresso, and cold brew spirits including liqueurs, vodka, tequila, and rums.  Curiously absent was coffee flavored whiskey.   This is the first Jameson flavored expression.  They had previously released their Caskmates series of beer barrel finished Jameson Whiskey.  This initially consisted of an IPA Edition, and a Stout Edition.  They followed that up with Topcutter IPA Edition, and Revolution Brewing Edition.  As the name would suggest Jameson Cold Brew infuses their Original Jameson Whiskey with Cold Brew Coffee flavor.  That flavor is made from Arabica beans grown in Brazil and Columbia.  No sugar is added. Review: Sheep Dog Peanut Butter Whiskey

Sheep Dog Peanut Butter Whiskey was recently released joining a suddenly crowded peanut butter flavored whiskey field.  Sheep Dog is also the second sheep themed peanut butter whiskey.  Skrewball Peanut Butter Whiskey has a sheep image on their bottles label.  Is this a coincidence?  Sheep Dog is made by Sazerac Company in Louisville Kentucky with whiskey, natural flavors, and caramel color. Review: Revel Stoke Blackberry Whisky

Revel Stoke Blackberry Whisky was just released.  It is one of eleven Revel Stoke flavor varieties.  All start with their Original Blended Canadian Whisky base.  That base is made from a blend of rye, corn and malted barley.  It is triple distilled in copper stills and is aged for 3 years in charred white oak barrels.  The whisky is delivered to Phillips Distilling Company in Minnesota where natural blackberry flavors are blended with the Canadian whisky before bottling at 70 proof. Review: PB&W Peanut Butter Whiskey

PB&W Peanut Butter Whiskey was introduced October 2019.  It is made at the Old Elk Distillery in Fort Collins Colorado.  The distillery was founded by Curt and Nancy Richardson, the innovators who created Otterbox, and Blue Ocean Enterprises.  This distillery also produces Old Elk Blended Straight Bourbon Whiskey, Dry Town Gin, and Nooku Bourbon Cream.  PB&W is made with blended premium whiskey and three different peanut flavors.  Little product information about the whiskey used is provided but because it is a blended whiskey I’m assuming it’s not made with their Old Elk Blended Straight Bourbon Whiskey as the base. Review: Skrewball Peanut Butter Whiskey

Skrewball Peanut Butter Whiskey was created in Ocean Beach California by a bartender and foodie who owned a bar and restaurant known for its band of misfits, black sheep, and skrewballs.  He originally combined peanut butter and whiskey to create a shot.  He later teamed with his wife to create Skrewball Peanut Butter Whiskey.  It is currently produced to their specifications at Le Vecke, a private label distillery in Mira Loma California.
