Review: Calico Jack Key Lime Rum
Calico Jack Key Lime rum is one of nine flavored rums Beam Suntory creates under the Calico Jack label. White Rock Distillery launched this line of rum and originally sold it without the Calico name. This line of rum was sold with the flavor ahead of the Jack name. Examples include Coconut Jack, and Mango Jack. In 1993 White Rock sold Calico Rum and Pinnacle Vodka to Beam. Calico Jack Key Lime is made with rum distilled in St. Croix at the same distillery where Cruzan rum is crafted. Natural key lime flavor is added in Frankfort Kentucky where it is bottled at 46 proof. Read more
Review: Van Gogh Blue Triple Wheat Vodka
Van Gogh Blue Triple Wheat vodka was introduced in 2009. It is crafted with premium wheat grown in Holland, Germany, and France. Master Distiller Tim Vos selects this wheat for their flavor characteristics. The wheat from Holland is grown near the coast and is a bit salty and dry. The French grown wheat comes from the center of France and it’s taste is sweet. The German wheat fields are feed with glacial mountain water which gives it a mineral taste. Pallini Limoncello was introduced in 1999. It is currently the number one best selling super premium limoncello brand. Pallini Limoncello is made with a recipe Virgilio Pallini perfected over 130 years ago. Their limoncello is crafted using Sfusato lemons grown on the Amalfi coast of Italy. The lemon peel is steeped in neutral alcohol with sugar added before bottling at 52 proof. Read more
Review: Atlantico Platino Rum
Atlantico Platino rum is one of three rums they craft in the Dominican Republic. Atlantico is yet another celebrity rum, as Enrique Iglesias is one of the partners. Platino is made with two rums. One is made with molasses, and the other is made with sugar cane juice. Both rums are aged separately in oak barrels before they are blended together and filtered to remove the color. Read more
Review: Belvedere Citrus Vodka
Belvedere Citrus vodka was launched November 2003 along with their Pomarancza flavor. It was originally called Cytrus, and is now one of five flavored vodka’s Belvedere currently crafts in Poland with Dankowskie Rye and pure Artesian well water. The water is sourced from their own wells and it undergoes an 11 step purification process that includes reverse osmosis. The flavors and aromas of Italian and Argentine lemons and Mexican limes are extracted in three separate macerations. These essential oils are then blended with the vodka. No sugar or artificial flavor is added before bottling at 80 proof. Read more
Review: Tezon Blanco Tequila
Tezon Blanco Tequila was introduced in the US June 2006. It is made with 8-12 year old 100% Blue agave grown in the red soil on their own estate. The agave is slow baked for three days in brick ovens and then the agave is crushed with a tahona wheel made from volcanic rock to extract the juice. The agave juice is mixed with yeast and fermented for three days before being double distilled in copper pot stills. The tequila then undergoes a chilled filtration process before it is bottled and sealed with cork and a cap made from volcanic rock. Read more
Review: Forbidden Secret White Chocolate American Cream
Forbidden Secret White Chocolate American Cream was just introduced by Forbidden Brands of Pewaukee Wisconsin. It is produced at the same distillery that creates Rum Chata, and the Tippy Cow line of rum creams. I guess if one state should know something about cream it would be the dairy state, Wisconsin. This is the follow up to their Dark Mocha American Cream that was previously reviewed. It is made with chocolate, pure Wisconsin dairy cream, and Jailers Premium Tennessee Whiskey. Read more
Review: Ron Matusalem Platino Rum
Ron Matusalem Platino rum was re-launched in 2002. Their rum was first produced in Santiago de Cuba in 1872 by a family that brought from Spain a secret formula for distilling and blending rum. In the period from the 1930’s-1950’s Ron Matusalem had over a 50% market share in Cuba. Following the Cuban revolution in 1959 the government took over the distillery and the rum was not made until it was re-launched in 2002 in the Dominican Republic using the original recipe. Ron Matusalem rum is triple distilled and aged in oak barrels where they use a Solera 3 blending process, where their rum transitions from younger to older barrels in a three step aging process. Review: Hanson of Sonoma Mandarin Organic Vodka
Hanson of Sonoma Mandarin Organic vodka was introduced in 2013. It is one of six vodka’s the Hanson family crafts in Sonoma California. The other flavors include, original, ginger, cucumber, espresso, and boysenberry. The vodka is small batch distilled with grapes and pure Artisan well water using a pot and column still that uses 50 distillation plates. The vodka undergoes a proprietary seven stage filtration before all natural flavors are infused before bottling at 80 proof. Read more
Review: Partida Blanco Tequila
Partida Blanco tequila was introduced in 2001. It is made with 7-10 year old 100% blue agave grown on the Partida Family Estate. The pinas are slow roasted for 20 hours in stainless steel ovens and after the agave juice is extracted it ferments for 36-40 hours before it is double distilled. Read more
