Review: 4 Orange Vodka
4 Orange vodka was introduced October 2009. It is the world’s first vodka made exclusively from Florida oranges. The four orange varieties used to craft this vodka are Hamlin, Temple, Valencia, and Parson Brown. Each 750ML bottle of 4 Oranges contains the juice from 20 Florida oranges. The orange juice is processed into a citrus molasses that is blended with fresh Florida water and a special yeast. A continuous distillation process is used before bottling at 80 proof. The aroma starts with old world vodka and as it aerates in my glass I pick up a fresh squeezed orange scent. The flavor opens with creamy natural orange juice and builds to an orange sherbet peak. It fades with a mild to medium mouth warming with spiced orange, and straight vodka texture. The finish is dry, but leaves orange, tangerine, and zest flavor, that lasts long after I’ve put the glass down. While orange tasting, it’s hard to call this an orange flavored vodka since it is distilled with oranges and not flavored with orange after distillation. Do you consider Tito’s a corn flavored vodka? In the end this is a quality vodka that may pack too much of a punch for someone looking for an orange tasting vodka to sip on the rocks. Mixed in a cocktail softens the bite while allowing the natural orange flavor to shine.
