Review: Absolut Vodka Cranberry Variety Pack

Absolut has partnered with Ocean Spray to produce a 4 flavor 8 can variety pack of Absolut vodka mixed with real cranberry juice from concentrate, natural flavors and soda water.  This is not Absoult’s first vodka canned cocktail mix pack.  The Absolut Vodka Cocktails 8 pack includes 2 cans each of Grapefruit Paloma, Pineapple Martini, Mango Mule, and Berry Vodkarita.  Those canned cocktails contain between 7-10% alcohol.  The Absolut Vodka Cranberry Variety Pack contains 2 cans each of Cranberry, Cran-Grape, Cran-Pineapple, and Cran-Raspberry.  Each weigh in with 4.5% alcohol.

Absolut Vodka Cranberry:  The aroma leads with bright cranberry juice.  The sweet cranberry entry is joined by Absolut Vodka building to a tart vodka cranberry juice peak.  It fades with cranberry soda and finishes with tart cranberry and soft vodka taste.  If you like your vodka cranberry light on vodka the addition of soda water gives this a nice added dimension.

Grade: A- 

Absolut Cran-Grape:  The aroma leads with cranberry juice and grape soda.  The grape bubble gum entry is joined by Absolut vodka and cranberry juice building to a grape jelly and cranberry juice peak.  It fades and finishes with creamy vodka and super sweet and tart cranberry jelly bean and grape jelly taste.

Grade: B

Absolut Cran-Pineapple:  The aroma leads with fresh sliced pineapple.  Additional time brings out cranberry notes.  The sweet fresh pineapple entry is joined by tart cranberry.  Creamy vodka arrives at the midpoint.  It fades with sweet syrupy fruit flavor.

Grade: B+

Absolute Cran-Raspberry:  The aroma leads with fresh picked raspberry.  The sweet fresh raspberry entry is joined by tart cranberry.  It fades with Raspberry Kool-Aid and finishes with filled raspberry candy, creamy vodka, and Cranberry Jell-O taste.

Grade: B

The Bottom Line:  Each of these flavors does a good job representing Ocean Spray cranberry, and creamy Absolut Vodka, but by the time I’ve completed a 12 oz. can the sweetness becomes a little overwhelming.
