Review: Authentico Organic Tequila Cristalino

by Jeff Ellingson

Authentico Organic Tequila Cristalino is one of three tequila expressions recently released by Paige and Ryne Iseminger.  The others include the previously reviewed Blanco, and a Reposado.  The pair also launched Freshie Tequila Seltzer back in 2020.  Authentico is crafted at Tequila del Senor, a 4th generation family owned distillery.  Manuel Garcia is Gran Tequilero for the brand.  Authentico starts with organic agave grown in both the Highland and Lowland regions.  The pinas are cooked in an autoclave.  Once extracted the juice is fermented with a proprietary yeast and without agave fibers in a closed stainless steel tank.  After a double distillation the spirit under goes a meticulous blended batch process over nine months including 6 months maturing in American oak Bourbon barrels.  The spirit is filtered to remove the color and some of the wood notes.  The aroma leads with herbal agave, toasted oak, orange, and butterscotch.  Additional time brings out mocha notes.  The sweet orange and agave entry is joined by butterscotch and oak.  Green olive and coffee arrive building to a chocolate cocoa peak.  It fades with whole orange, and melted milk chocolate, finishing with oak, orange peel, and black pepper.  Authentico Organic Tequila Cristalino is a tasty tequila with a very unique flavor profile that is bottled additive free.
