Review: Bacardi Major Lazer Rum

by Jeff Ellingson

Bacardi Major Lazer Rum was recently released.  Bacardi hired DJ and Producer Jillionaire of the musical act Major Lazer to serve as the companies Minister of Rum.  Major Lazer is an Electronic Music Trio who’s members include Diplo, Jillionaire, and Walshy Fire.  They are probably best know for their mega hit Lean On.  Jillionaire who grew up in Trinidad where rum is a big part of life, traveled to the company’s distillery in Puerto Rico and worked alongside Maestro de Ron Manny Oliver in developing this Limited Edition rum.  It is made from a blend of 3 and 4 year old amber rums filtered before and after tropical aging.Bacardi Major Lazer pours to a bright copper amber color.  The aroma is vanilla, banana, pineapple, oak, allspice, and molasses.  The sweet entry includes tropical fruit, molasses, vanilla, and oak flavor.  This is a very smooth rum that fades with gentle warmth and apple cinnamon notes.  The finish is silky smooth and lightly dry.  Bacardi Major Lazer is a steal at the $9.99 I paid for it, and a bargain at twice the price.  It may still be a little hard to find, but if you see it, I wouldn’t wait.  This is a Limited Edition Rum that I will be sorry to say good bye to.
