Review: Bacardi Razz Rum

bacardi razz - CopyBacardi Razz Rum was introduced in 2003.  Bacardi also launched their Coco and Vanilla flavors that year, but have since discontinued their vanilla flavor.  Razz is one of 15 flavored rums they create in Puerto Rico.  It is made with molasses and a single strain of yeast, Le Levadura Bacardi.  Bacardi ages their rum in lightly charred American white oak barrels before being filtered through a mix of charcoal made from tropical woods and coconut shells before being infused with natural raspberry flavor.The aroma is a blend of rum and raspberry.  The flavor is over sweet raspberry syrup with rum soon joining the mix.  It builds to a tart rum enhanced raspberry peak before fading with a mild mouth warming and a mild rum burn as it slides down my throat.  At 70 proof Razz was created to be mixed in a cocktail, and while there is not much heat, the pure sweetness of this rum makes it hard to drink on it’s own.
