Review: Centinela Blanco Tequila

by Jeff Ellingson

Centinela Blanco Tequila - CopyCentinela Blanco Tequila is made at a distillery that was first established in 1904.  Their tequila is produced with 100% Blue agave that has matured for eight years.  Once the agave has been delivered to the distillery it is baked in clay ovens with steam for 24 hours and then allowed to cool for 24 hours.  The agave is gently crushed so as not to tear the fibers which would release a bitter taste.  The tequila is double distilled in copper pot stills and then poured into their trademark square shaped bottle. The aroma is baked agave, and pepper with a fruit backing.  The vanilla and agave entry is joined by raisin flavor building to a pineapple leaning, tropical fruit tasting, peak.  It fades with a sprinkle of pepper and a very smooth dry mineral finish.  Centinela Blanco is a very flavorful, agave forward tequila, that is smooth enough and tasty enough to serve chilled, on the rocks, or mixed in a cocktail.
