Review: Coney Island Hard Orange Cream Ale
Coney Island Hard Orange Cream Ale was recently released along with a hard Ginger Ale. These two hard soda’s join their previously reviewed Hard Root Beer. Hard Ginger ale and root beer have been around for a couple of years, and orange appears to be the next hard soda flavor, as Miller-Coors will release Henry’s Hard Orange Soda nationwide in January. Orange Cream Ale is made with ale, natural flavors, and caramel color by the Coney Island Brewing Company, an independently operated brewery owned by the Boston Beer Company. It pours to golden ginger ale color with a thin white head that dissipates quickly. The aroma is orange spice drop candy and vanilla. The subtle orange soda entry is joined by spice and sarsaparilla flavor. Creamy vanilla bean flavor arrives and builds to a cream soda peak. It fades with a hint of honey and wintergreen. Coney Island Hard Orange Cream Ale has real soda taste, and while it is not over sweet, it has more cream soda flavor, and even more root beer flavor, than the orange soda taste I expected. Hard Orange Cream tastes good, but I feel a little like the guy who went to Ghostbusters expecting to see a scary movie. He liked the movie it just wasn’t what he expected.
