Review: Copper Bottom Vodka
Copper Bottom Vodka is small batch distilled from unrefined sugar cane at the Copper Bottom Distillery in Holly Hill Florida. Mark and Joanne Craig opened the distillery that is operated by their son and daughter in law, October 2016. They currently craft 6 different rums and Copper Bottom Vodka. In the early 1760’s the British Royal Navy started using copper sheathing to protect the bottom of their wooden boats from barnacles and bullets. They soon learned it also increased boat speed. The distillery takes its name from these vessels. The distillery itself is located in a former car wash complex but back in the 1700’s this land was part of Three Chimneys plantation, sugar mill, and rum distillery. The nose leads with burnt popcorn, banana peel, and vanilla. The sweet vanilla entry is joined by burnt sugar building to a vanilla sugar cookie peak. It fades with mineral, milky vanilla, and caramel and finishes with anise, and citrus peel, leaving mineral, warm peppery texture, banana peel, and sugar cookie taste.
