Review: Copper Crow Wheat Vodka
Copper Crow Wheat Vodka is made from locally sourced wheat at the Copper Crow Distillery in Bayfield Wisconsin. Copper Crow is the first native American owned distillery in the US. The distillery was established in 2016 by Linda and Curt Basina. Both are members of the Red Cliff band of Lake Superior Chippewa. Curt a retired state cop is the distiller. They opened the distillery with their wheat vodka and an apple vodka. They now produce a vodka made from whey. In total they produce a dozen spirits including gin, whiskey, rum, apple brandy, starka, and aquavit. Copper Crow Wheat vodka is distilled in small batches and then continuously distilled for 24 hours. The spirit is cut with well water from a Lake Superior aquifer. The aroma leads with vanilla and banana. Additional time brings out apple notes. The sweet vanilla entry builds to a caramel banana peak. It fades with vanilla and baked apple and finishes with vanilla custard and caramel apple pastry. This is a very tasty vodka that is no longer crafted at the distillery so if you see a bottle grab it.
