Review: Firefly Sweet Tea Vodka

Firefly Sweet Tea vodka was created in a small still on Wadmalow Island South Carolina, 30 miles south of Charleston.  It was introduced in 2008 and it was the worlds first hand crafted sweet tea flavored vodka.  To keep up with demand Firefly is now produced and bottled at the Buffalo Trace distillery in Frankfort Kentucky using the same recipe.  It is made with vodka that is made with Carolina grown Muscadine grapes and it is distilled four times and infused with tea grown on a plantation five miles from the distillery.  Real Louisiana sugar cane is blended before bottling at 35% alcohol.It pours to a sweet tea color.  The aroma leads with sweet tea and is backed with vodka scents.  The flavor is sweet tea and a very good one at that.  The Louisiana sugar cane is perfectly balanced by the Carolina grown tea.  If everyone made sweet tea that tasted this good I would drink a lot more of it.  The only sign of vodka is a mild mouth warming that vanishes when mixed with water and a twist of lemon.  This is a vodka that should be sold in a smaller bottle or at least come with a warning label.  There are some very interesting drink recipes on the Firefly website but for my money the Firefly flavor is so good I would stick with a couple of the basics.
