Review: Flying Dutchman Vodka
Flying Dutchman Spirits was founded by Brandon Thornton, Scott Kaldenberg and Jim Kaldenberg in 2017. Their 4400 square foot distillery and cocktail room is located in Eden Prairie Minnesota. All three have worked as private pilots and they are all of Dutch decent. They currently craft 9 spirits including gin, 2 100% Blue Agave Spirits, 2 Vodka’s, 2 rums, Creme de Cacao, and a Coffee Liqueur. Today we are reviewing their Flying Dutchman Vodka that was originally launched as Nas-Drov-Via Vodka. Flying Dutchman Vodka is made from a mash of Peruvian potatoes and Minnesota grown corn. It is distilled on a Hungarian made Hagyo still. The aroma leads with potato peel. Additional time brings out lemon and berry notes. The sweet citrus, berry, and earthy potato skin entry builds to a caramel and lemon blueberry peak. It fades with malt, lemon, raspberry, and boiled sweet corn, and finishes with milk chocolate, black pepper, and lemon peel.
