Grey Goose Cherry Noir vodka was introduced April 2012. It is one of five flavored vodkas Grey Goose has created to complement their original Grey Goose. It is made in France with soft winter wheat and pristine spring water that has been naturally filtered through Champaign limestone from the Cognac region of France. It is distilled using a five column distillation process. Spring water filtered through double reverse osmosis is blended with the vodka before it is filtered through cellulose and carbon. The rarest black cherries from orchards in the Southwest of France are delivered to a parfumerie where the flavors and aromas are extracted. These essential oils are then blended with their original vodka.
The aroma is cherry licorice with a hint of strawberry. The flavor enters as a soft and creamy sweet cherry and builds to a natural tart peak before fading with a hint of unsweetened vanilla flavor and a medium mouth warming with a touch of vodka flavor on the finish. Additional sips bring out a hint of strawberry flavor and a sweet spiciness with less heat on the finish as my mouth adjusts to the full 80 proof weight of the vodka. Some cherry vodkas stick with a pure cherry flavor and the result is a cherry cough syrup/drop flavor. Grey Goose Cherry Noir may be a little heavy at 80 proof for some to enjoy on the rocks, but the subtle additional flavors Grey Goose has added to their vodka makes this a cherry flavored vodka that doesn’t taste like it comes from your corner drug store.
