Review: ODonnells Irish Cream Liqueur
ODonnells Irish Cream Liqueur is one of five Irish cream varieties made by The R. A. Merry and Company under the ODonnells label in Clonmel County Tipperary Ireland. The other flavors include Strawberry, White Chocolate, Mint Chocolate, and Caramel Cream. I have only seen this private label Irish Cream sold at Aldi Foods. ODonnells is made with grape wine, whey neutral spirits, natural flavors and caramel color. It pours to a milky dark caramel color. The aroma is caramel, butterscotch, vanilla and grape wine. The thick entry has a creamy feel with caramel, dark chocolate, and cream flavor building to a grape butterscotch peak. It fades with marshmallow, honey, and grape wine taste, and finishes with black licorice flavor and a mild burn. O’Donnell’s Irish Cream has a thick and creamy feel that tastes more like melted caramel and butterscotch, than cream.

Absolutely the best Irish Cream I have ever tasted. Better than Bailey’s. Smoother and creamier.
I purchased the Mint Chocolate and my first taste made me think my glass was not rinsed thoroughly because it tasted like soap. I took another clean glass and tried again and asked my husband to try as well. Both of us went “YUK” We nowhave a bottle of “YUK”
Most cream liqueurs have a shelf life of around 18 months. Once opened you should consume within 6 months. It could be you got an old bottle or it could be it just tastes that bad. I have not reviewed their Mint Chocolate flavor yet and after reading your thoughts I don’t know if I’m brave enough to try. I would take it back to Aldi’s for a refund. I have a few new flavored Irish cream liqueurs sitting in front of me and I’m anxious to try them but I’ve been battling Covid for 3 weeks and while I feel much better now my taste has not completely returned.
My bottle of O’Donnells that I have just opened smell okay but has an after taste that tastes like sick.
Do you think it has gone off.
If it smells bad I would return it to the store you purchased it from. Cream liqueurs typically have a shelf life of 18-24 months and once open about 6 months
