Review: Potosi Craft Seltzer
Potosi Craft Seltzer is produced at the Potosi Brewing Company in Potosi Wisconsin. The brewery was originally founded in 1852, just a stones throw from the Mississippi river. The brewery closed in 1972 but it re-opened in 2008 following a $7.5 million restoration. In January 2015 they opened their new state of the art production facility in Potosi Wisconsin, not far from where Wisconsin, Iowa, and Illinois come together. The Potosi Brewing Company is solely owned by the Potosi Foundation which is run by a board of elected volunteers. All of their profits go to charity. Potosi brews several year round beers including Snake Hollow IPA, Cave Ale Amber Ale, Good Old Potosi, Czech Style Pilsner, and Potosi Lux Lager. They also craft over a dozen Seasonal, Barrel aged, and Signature Can Series Beers. Potosi Craft Seltzer was introduce July 2021. It is made with a traditional hard seltzer base of carbonated water and alcohol from a sugar brew. Natural flavors and cane sugar are added. Potosi is available in a 4 flavor 12 can variety pack that we have the opportunity to review today.
Potosi Grapefruit Craft Seltzer: The aroma leads with whole sliced grapefruit and carbon seltzer. The sweet grapefruit entry builds to a tart grapefruit peak. The level of carbonation is less than most hard seltzers, but I would not describe it as flat. It fades with sour grapefruit flavor and finishes with gently sweetened grapefruit taste.
Grade: B+
Potosi Cherry Craft Seltzer: The aroma leads with Cherry Starburst. A carbon seltzer backing follows. The sweet Maraschino cherry entry builds to a tart dried cherry peak. It fades with sour cherry pie filling, and finishes with foamy seltzer, grapefruit peel, and cherry gummy taste.
Grade: B+
Potosi Raspberry Lemonade Seltzer: The aroma leads with fresh squeezed lemon and ripe raspberry. The raspberry lemonade entry has real lemon flavor sweetened by raspberry puree. It fades with tangy lemon and finishes with whole lemon and Raspberry Jell-O taste.
Grade: B+
Potosi Passionfruit Orange Guava Seltzer: The aroma leads with orange. Guava, passionfruit and kiwi follow. The sweet orange entry is joined by tropical passionfruit and guava. It fades with kiwi, tangy pineapple, guava, and orange. It finishes with creamy seltzer and fresh tropical fruit juice taste. Maybe it’s because three distinct flavors are blended with the seltzer base but POG has more flavor intensity without a more sugary taste, than any of the other Potosi Seltzers.

The Bottom Line: When reviewing hard seltzers I look for several things including, is it over sweet, does it have a heavy carbon seltzer after taste, and would I immediately drink a second can of it. Potosi Craft Seltzer checks all the right boxes.
