Review: Prairie Organic Cucumber Vodka

by Jeff Ellingson

Prairie Organic Cucumber Vodka was released in 2013.  It is made from organic #2 yellow corn grown by a co-op of 900 farmers in Central Minnesota.  After harvest the corn is brought to a farmer owned co-op where it is ground up and put into a mash where it ferments.  The mash is then delivered to the Prairie Distillery and distilled in a copper still.  The vodka is distilled in small batches to taste rather than a set number of times.  Water, sugar, natural flavor and salt are blended with the vodka base to create Prairie Organic Cucumber Vodka. The aroma is fresh sliced cucumber with a corn vodka backing.  The sweet cucumber entry has lightly sugar enhanced fresh cucumber taste that builds to a creamy cucumber peak.  It fades with bitter cucumber peel balanced by sweet organic yellow corn taste.  The finish is warm and semidry with a lightly salted charcoal taste.  This is a very smooth vodka with both natural cucumber flavor and creamy corn taste.  It will work well both as a mixer, or served chilled with a cucumber slice in a martini glass.
