Review: Pseudo Seltzer

Pseudo Seltzer was recently released by Toppling Goliath Brewing Company in Decorah Iowa.  Toppling Goliath was founded in 2009 by Clark and Barbara Lewey.  Toppling Goliath beer is distributed in 30 states and they create more than 40 beers that rotate throughout the year.  Their year round beers include Pseudo Sue Pale Ale, Pompeii IPA, Dorothy’s New World Lager, and King Sue Double IPA.  Toppling Goliath has been named the second best brewery in the world by Beer Advocates.  Pseudo Seltzer is made from a malt beverage base with natural flavors.  It is currently available in a 4 flavor 12 can variety pack with 3 cans each of Strawberry, Pineapple, Mango, and Watermelon.   

Strawberry Pseudo Seltzer:  The aroma leads with crushed strawberry.  Additional time brings out strawberry and cream notes.  The strawberry jam entry builds to a sweetened strawberry peak.  It fades with foamy sour strawberry flavor leaving a sugary aftertaste with a hint of malt.

Pineapple Pseudo Seltzer:  The aroma leads with sliced pineapple.  The pineapple sorbet entry builds to a juicy tangy pineapple peak.  It fades with whipped cream and foamy sour pineapple milk shake taste leaving sweetened pineapple and vanilla custard taste.

Mango Pseudo Seltzer:  The aroma leads with dried mango.  The sweetened mango entry is joined by vanilla and citrus building to a sweet and tangy mango preserve peak.  It fades with Orange Creamsicle and mango sherbet.  The finish is sweet and tart with Mango Hawaiian Ice taste.

Watermelon Pseudo Seltzer:  The aroma leads with Jolly Rancher Watermelon.  Additional time brings out vanilla buttercream notes.  The sweet watermelon entry builds to a natural juicy watermelon peak.  It fades with Jolly Ranch Watermelon candy and finishes with Cool Whip and Sour Watermelon Gummy taste.
