Review: Revel Stoke Blackberry Whisky

by Jeff Ellingson

Revel Stoke Blackberry Whisky was just released.  It is one of eleven Revel Stoke flavor varieties.  All start with their Original Blended Canadian Whisky base.  That base is made from a blend of rye, corn and malted barley.  It is triple distilled in copper stills and is aged for 3 years in charred white oak barrels.  The whisky is delivered to Phillips Distilling Company in Minnesota where natural blackberry flavors are blended with the Canadian whisky before bottling at 70 proof.  The aroma is blackberry syrup.  The sugary sweet blackberry jelly entry builds to a blackberry bubblegum peak.  It fades with tart blackberry.  The finish is warm with a mild sting leaving soft whisky flavor including vanilla, caramel, and subtle oak, framed by blackberry jam, leaving bittersweet banana peel and sour blackberry taste.  Revel Stoke Blackberry Whisky is Kool-aid sweet, but not syrupy.  Served at room temperature more of the Canadian Whisky flavor is present.
