Review: Ricacha Horchata
Ricacha Horchata is made with 12.5% alcohol by Crosby Lake Spirits in Princeton Minnesota using rum from Barbados, cream, and natural cinnamon flavors. At a time when Dean’s Milk which only has a 2-3 week shelf life is introducing its Flavor Tight bottle to protect its milk from light, Ricacha goes against the grain. Standing out like a day light walking vampire against a sea of light protected cream liqueurs on the liquor store shelf, Ricacha flaunts its body in a clear see through bottle. The packaging is both modern and attractive with the font painted on the bottle and a cork included cap. Priced $4 less than Rum Chata and offering a $10 rebate at my local liquor store it was begging me to try it. I did. Claiming half the fat and less calories than the leading brand I didn’t know what to expect. The initial aroma is cinnamon and vanilla with a hint of rum. It pours this to a creamy sandstone color. In my mouth the feel is skim milk thin and a little syrupy. The initial milky flavor is replaced with vanilla and a double dose of cinnamon building to a sweet spiced rum finish.
