Review: Schlafly Pumpkin Ale
Schlafly Pumpkin Ale was introduced in 2006 by the Schlafly Brewing Company. Schlafly has been brewing beer in St Louis since 1991. Their Pumpkin Ale is a beer that has a long history of appearing on Best Tasting Pumpkin Beer lists, including being named the best pumpkin beer by Paste Magazine in 2014. It is brewed with pumpkin and butternut squash with a blend of spices including cinnamon, nutmeg and clove. Schlafly Pumpkin beer is sold in six packs and on draft from August-October.It pours to a dark cloudy orange caramel copper color with a tan head. The aroma is pumpkin spice and malt. The dry entry has a funky squash flavor that fades with nutmeg and cinnamon taste. The finish is bittersweet with malt, clove, and Marynka hops most prominent. At 8% alcohol Schlafly Pumpkin Ale is strong enough to be considered an Imperial Ale. While the finish does not burn, it does have the feel of an 8% beer.
