Review: Severo Tequila Plata
Severo Tequila Plata was released May 2021 by Hotaling & Co. Hotaling imports dozens of spirits including two other tequila brands, Chinaco and Fiero tequila. To say Hotaling has a complete spirit line might be an understatement as they also import Scotch, Irish Whiskey, Mezcal, Gin, Vodka, Pisco, Cachaca, Rum, Calvados, Cognac, and Liqueur. Severo is made from 100% agave grown in the Lowland region at Casa Don Roberto. Once distilled the spirit rests for 6 months in stainless steel tanks before bottling. The aroma leads with agave and citrus fruit. Additional time brings out peanut butter notes. The roasted agave entry is joined by lemon and lime building to a milk chocolate, peanut butter, and citrus peak. It fades with agave and mineral and finishes with saline, white pepper, roasted peanuts, and orange. Not a bad tasting spirit but I’ve reviewed over 300 tequilas and never tasted a tequila with a roasted peanut flavor profile before.
