Shiner Ruby Redbird Beer was first brewed in 2011 and was sold as a summer seasonal beer. It is now available year round and it is one of twelve beers they currently brew and bottle at the Spoetzl Brewery in Shiner Texas. It is a lager beer brewed with Munich malt, Mt. Hood Citra and Cascade hops, and Texas Rio Red Grapefruit juice. Natural ginger flavor is then added.It pours to a golden copper color with a medium head that quickly disappears. The aroma is a malty mix of grapefruit and ginger. The initial grapefruit flavor has a malty backing and fades with a hint of ginger, but like the head, the flavor vanishes quickly. This is a very easy drinking beer that only leaves a subtle mix of grapefruit and hops with a light ginger spice as an aftertaste.
