Siesta Key Toasted Coconut Rum was introduced December 2014. It is one of six rums crafted in Sarasota Florida by CEO and Master Distiller Troy Roberts. Troy founded The Drum Circle Distilling Company in 2007. Their rum starts with 100% Florida grown sugar cane and triple filtered water. It is distilled in a true copper pot still and aged in charred American oak barrels. Real shredded coconut, honey, and a proprietary blend of spices are infused with the rum for over seven days. No artificial flavors or sweeteners are added before bottling at 70 proof.It pours to a golden color. The aroma is vanilla, fresh shredded coconut and rum. The sweet sugar cane and creamy caramel and vanilla entry is joined by honey and natural coconut flavor. Chocolate flavor arrives on the warm fade that is smooth, with a mild tingle where I expected to feel a sting, from this 70 proof rum. The long finish has honey and shredded coconut flavor. What makes this rum so special is the real natural flavors are interwoven with the rum in such a way that it doesn’t taste like a flavored rum. Siesta Key Toasted Coconut Rum will make a great mixer, but I will enjoy mine served on the rocks or chilled in the same Riedel glass I enjoy my favorite tequilas.
